I'm curious to know what people thought of COM. I thought the storyline was intriguing. The nobodies were cool characters and I liked the whole Namine erasing Sora's memories angle. But the battle system and gameplay was a major turn off for me. I don't know that I'd encourage anyone to play it for any other reason than to have a better idea of what's happening in KH2. As KH fans, what did you think? Was it a good idea for Square to release the game? Did you enjoy playing it? I would have liked it loads better if the game was released on PS2 and used a gameplay mode similar to KH1. I actually went out and bought a gameboy to play COM, and I regretted it.

Didn't enjoy playing it as such, it was more of an essential buy to follow the storyline rather that reading it online.
It was those damn doors... I mean, Sora has a keyblade and he needs cards to open doors... Luckily for me I already had a Gameboy, tho I always regretted that as I found no appealing games for it. I'm worried that the 3 upcoming KH titles will be similar as they also seem to just be fillers.

I would suggest playing it. I thought the story was actually loads better than in KH2. The characters intrigued me. I found myself enjoying the conflict between organization members. Each had their own angle and motives, trying to get one up on their comrades. Especially Axel. I was sad to see that didn't make it's way into KH2, besides some of Axel's actions. That character was also much better in CoM. I also think that KH2 is very difficult to understand in full without having played CoM.
However, I would suggest borrowing it or renting it rather than buying it. It isn't worth purchasing because of the gameplay. The cards were beyond aggravating. I felt my skill in playing was worthless, because it all had to do with being lucky enough to play the a card your opponent can't beat. It was beyond annoying to have my attack be broken by an enemy all the way across the screen who couldn't possibly have blocked the attack. And yet my proximity to an opponent does in fact matter when attacking. So they can block me from across the screen, but I can't attack from the same distance? Lame. |

^I would definitely agree with renting or borrowing this. I just wish someone had told me that beforehand. Has any one actually liked the gameplay? It seems that S-E had a miss there.

I thought the gameplay was alot of fun, albeit REALLY repetitive. It does give you the options to make countless battle strategies along with the different card combinations and the sleights.

The cards wouldn't have bothered me as much if not for the facts I mentioned above (blocking from across the screen and such). When attacking heartless, everything about range and strike locations (hitting large bodies from behind, shadows sinking into the ground, etc.) still applied. But when it came to them blocking me, none of it mattered. That's what frustrated me.

Everyone was a card playing noob at some point.
I'd be more apt to recommend the game to a KH fan whom I knew enjoyed card-based games, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from playing it simply because they've never played one before. I don't thik it was that hard to understand. Just annoying.
